My favourite part of being a Chemex franchisee is my customers – it’s corny but true!
I like working with businesses to resolve challenges, recommending products that I know will do the job and being happy to show them in action. Being hands-on is how I have always operated, even as a Divisional Director I would be with the mobile cleaners cleaning Bristol Water pump engines, mopping out Police cells or working at 4am to make sure the new B&Q was gleaming and ready to admit it’s first customers at 9am.
My Chemex life is thankfully nowhere near as stressful and hectic, I certainly do a lot less miles! But I take even greater care of clients and enjoy the different challenges I face daily.
It is also more enjoyable and personally rewarding, mainly because I have direct contact with all my customers; whether it’s a bakery where most of the staff know me as `the Chemex man’, or the pub where a cup of tea is always waiting for me and the dog no longer wants to eat me!
I started out with a temporary job in the 90s selling cleaning machines for a British manufacturer. With a variety of customers such as nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and distributors, it was an introduction into an industry that provided variety and challenge.
A move to larger cleaning machinery then evolved into the Contract Cleaning side of the industry looking after B&Q, Dunelm, Pets At Home, Matalans and Police Services across the country.
My experience with brands large and small has covered not only the technical aspects but, just as importantly, the customer service that is so critical to providing a great experience for clients.
In 2019 I took on the challenge of running my own business with Chemex, serving customers in Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bristol calling on the many years I’ve spent in the cleaning industry.
I’m proud to have successful grown my business, mainly through recommendation and, even more satisfyingly, customer retention.
